DIY Experiment: Jack Daniel’s Soap Dispenser

I’m not gonna lie: I like Pinterest. In fact, I may be a little bit too pin-terested in spending my time there. (Heh. Sorry.) But it’s never a complete waste of time, because I’ve tried countless recipes and embarked on multiple creative projects as a result of the ideas I’ve seen there.

The most recent was this Jack Daniel’s soap dispenser that was incredibly easy to make. The original idea came from Helen over at Curly Birds, and I’m thankful she shared so I could copy. (Hey, it’s the sincerest form of flattery, right?) Anyway, here’s how it’s done:

Step 1. Buy a bottle of Jack Daniel’s. Whatever size you’d like to set beside your sink.

Step 2. Drink the whiskey. Preferably not all at once.

Step 3. Rinse well, fill with your choice of hand or dish soap (depending on where you want to put it), and complete with a pump. I bought a plastic bottle of J.R. Watkins hand soap from Target and just transferred the contents (and the pump) over to the Jack Daniel’s bottle.

So, how much did it cost?

  • Whiskey: $19.99
  • Hand soap: $4.19

Total cost: $24.18

Admittedly not the cheapest project in the world, but I’d been wanting to do it for a long time, and it looks awesome in our kitchen…so yeah, totally worth it.

If I wasn’t too young to buy jack Daniels I’d try this in a heartbeat. It just looks so…I think I’d describe it as laid back not trying too hard cool!

Question… Did you buy the Jack Daniels solely to make the soap dispenser? I admire that you suffer for your art : p Just kidding, I liked that you put it under the cost, like you were obliged to buy the bottle (and drink the whiskey) in order to create the end product, it make me laugh : )

Of course, the fun lies in the prep work. Namely, emptying the bottle!

  6. Meghan B

Haha you’re right, that part wasn’t too difficult!

Nice description. 🙂 You could always file it away as an idea for later, or you could use a different bottle. I thought of using a vintage Coke bottle, too.

Wellll… Haha good question actually! I don’t typically buy Jack Daniel’s myself, but my husband and I didn’t have too much trouble finishing it off for the sake of the project. 🙂

    Thank you!

How do you take off the plastic doser??

It’s just a twist top, so it screws on and off very easily.

Does the pump still work well?
